It knows the difference between wrong and almost right

Not every unexpected answer means the same thing. Parolu handles harmless typing differences locally and can explain contextual alternatives, grammar mistakes, and near-correct answers when the distinction matters.

You get help with the answer in front of you—not an open-ended chatbot distracting you from the course.

FAQ

A few things worth knowing

Is Parolu a course or a flashcard app?

Parolu is course-first. Lessons build practical language abilities in a clear sequence. Typed recall and adaptive review help you remember the words and phrases each lesson teaches.

Is Parolu suitable for complete beginners?

Yes, where a beginner course is available. Learners with prior knowledge can start from the beginning or use the adaptive placement test.

Does Parolu teach speaking?

Parolu focuses on vocabulary and phrases, contextual comprehension, typed recall, audio exposure, reading reinforcement, and durable memory. It should complement real listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

What happens when I reach the free limit?

You can keep reviewing everything already unlocked for free. Premium lets you add new material and continue through the course.

Is Parolu based on language-learning research?

Parolu is research-informed. Its design draws on useful language selection, meaningful context, active recall, focused feedback, spaced practice, and balanced language development.

Can I use Parolu offline?

Yes. Downloaded material can be practised offline and reviews synchronize when you reconnect. AI-only feedback may be unavailable without a connection.

How does Parolu compare with Duolingo?

Duolingo is a strong choice if many languages, varied exercises, and game-like motivation based on points, badges and ranks are your priorities. Parolu is deliberately calmer and more course-first: it organizes language around practical communication goals, regularly asks you to type answers from memory, explains valid alternatives and grammatical errors in context, and schedules each word or phrase according to your memory. The result is less focus on points and streaks, and more on what to learn, why an answer works, and when to review it.

How does Parolu compare with language flashcard apps like Clozemaster or Lingvist?

Clozemaster and Lingvist are useful for high-volume advanced vocabulary practice. Parolu goes further: it decides not only when to review an item, but why it belongs at that point in a coherent course. Content is sequenced by communicative usefulness, teachability, reusable patterns, and deliberate recycling—not word frequency alone. Lessons connect a practical goal with meaning, audio, sentence context, typed recall, short reading, precise correction, and adaptive review. AI-assisted evaluation can accept valid alternatives and explain near misses, while the placement test helps you avoid material you already know. That makes Parolu better suited as a primary learning path, not just a vocabulary supplement or collection of cards.

Why is it called P̃arølŭ?

Parolu means “Speak!” in Esperanto. Naming the product after a major national language would tie it to one particular culture, while Parolu is for learners everywhere.

Strictly speaking, perhaps it should be called Krokodilu. In Esperanto circles, krokodili means slipping into a national language when everyone is supposed to be speaking Esperanto. But that joke would require our learners to know rather more Esperanto than we can reasonably expect.

Parolu is short, memorable, and gives us some excellent diacritics to play with—even if Esperanto would never spell it quite like this.
